Ignition- Fuel, air and a whole lot of spark!
You might think here at Ignition we are all about cars but really, we are all about people and the beautiful country we live in. It just so happens we think one of the best ways to spend time with someone and see this amazing place is in a fantastic piece of engineering.
Rewind 3 years and on a road trip down the West Coast, we finally made the call that Ignition was a business we wanted to have a damn good crack at. The West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand is one of the most scenic places you can visit. It looks like no other place in New Zealand with its dense, lush green rainforest, amazing coastal views, and temperamental weather. For me, all these things are what gives it it’s charm. I was doing this road trip with my husband Barry and had the same discussion we had had before about how great it would be exploring it in a totally awesome car, what car it would be and why that car would be best. We realised then if someone else created the type of business we had in mind we would regret it forever and so here we are.
For those of you who know us or have been clients before you will know that we are all about making sure you have an amazing experience, not just when you deal with us but we you set off exploring our wonderful Aotearoa. So many people think that because they aren’t really into cars or don’t know much about them that the unique experience we offer isn’t for them but, think about it this way…you could be heading out on an epic adventure to somewhere you have never explored before, that has amazing scenery and great people. You are with someone you love (best mate, Mum, husband) and you get to do this from the seat of a sports car that looks, drives and sounds phenomenal. It’s this combination that makes it so bloody great! And not to sound soppy (because again if you know us you know we certainly aren't) but I guarantee you will leave with memories of Queenstown and beyond (and hopefully us) that you will talk about with friends and family for a long time after.
We love creating adventures where we can package some beautiful experiences together with businesses that share the same values as us and deliver outstanding service, making the process simple and easy for you, just turn up and enjoy! Last year we filmed a video to capture the essence of Ignition Self Drive. We set off from Queenstown, through the Lindis Pass and arrived at Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat, an extremely special boutique accommodation set on the shore of Lake Pukaki, run by a fantastic couple with an eye for detail and a passion for their surroundings.
I guess you could say it was a love story: pick your favourite person, choose your dream car, breathtaking location and go explore.
If you haven’t checked it out already, click here to watch and feel free to leave us a comment on the video to let us know what you think.
"Aston or R8, which one should I choose?"
This is a question we get asked a lot so let me start by saying that we love both of these vehicles but for very different reasons.
The Aston Martin is iconic. When you hear that name you think about prestige, style and comfort (and let's be honest .... James Bond). The engine is hand assembled and every detail has been thought through from the intricate stitching on the leather to the smoked alloy wheels. All of these things create a feeling when you look at, sit in and drive this car and that feeling is a mix of sophistication and grandeur. It's amazing!
Now let’s talk about the R8. When you see the Audi R8 on the road you cannot help but be impressed. It's low to the ground, wide and looks more like a super car than a sports car. The mid-engine orientation means the weight is evenly distributed so you are glued to the road making for a fantastic driving experience. It's all about precision, performance and handling. Inside the luxury is more understated than the Aston. The carbon fibre creates a much cooler feel.
It really comes down to the type of person you are or should I say who you would like to be on the day. Maybe you are trying to create a certain experience for a special someone that will be joining you on your adventure? These are all things to consider when making your decision.
Let us just finish by saying there is no bad choice here, you won't be disappointed either way.
